Sketchbook

Bri Emery has fantastic style, on top of being a great graphic designer. Her blog, designlovefest, is a constant source of inspiration.

I’m loving her most recent style column post. The colors, pattern and texture of this look are just too good. Look at that collar!

Illustration is a big part of my personal design style, so I try to sketch often. I liked this image I sketched based on Bri’s post. Thought it would be fun to share here..

For Fun

Summer is here and I couldn’t be happier. With a less hectic work schedule and a break from school, I’m looking forward to a bit more leisure and a lot more time for aimless creativity. Sometimes it’s nice to make things for no other reason than for fun..

Mjolk

Many of the purchases I made for my first apartment as a graduate student were strictly out of necessity. We needed plates to eat and cooking utensils to make dinner, and we needed them fast! The result was hodgepodge of things bought on the cheap, and bought quickly.

Since relocating to a new state and into a beautiful old apartment, I’m starting fresh. I’m not rushing the design process – we have what we need so there isn’t really an urgency this time. I’m slowly replacing (recycling) the old with more thoughtfully designed, interesting pieces I can see myself keeping for years to come.

My goal is to be a lot more intentional this time around. Even the most utilitarian items can be beautiful. Canadian lifestyle boutique Mjolk understands this perfectly.

Film Noir

Recently, one of my favorite shows (Castle) featured an episode in the style of film noir. It was so much fun to watch.  The dress, the dialogue, the drama! I was inspired to create some imagery in the same style for a new project. Here is a little taste..

Pattern Play

It’s no secret that I love color. My wardrobe and my home are full of it. Sometimes, though, simple patterns in neutral tones are a refreshing change of pace.
